Nesting in the Afromontane Forest, just seven kilometres from Knysna, with endless views, shared with only Fish Eagles, the large and elevated luxury ‘tree-suites’ are an African celebration of colour and textures. Experience the evocative sounds, scents and tastes of Africa at their very best.
With wonderful staff that holds the lodge close to their hearts, guests can expect an experience touching the senses and restoring the spirit in a wonderland of Nature. Alien vegetation was cleared by hand, large Australian gum, blackwood and wattle were felled, planked and kiln dried to create the beautiful flooring, chairs, tables, doors etc in the lodge. Strong eco-friendly methods were used to construct the “tree-suites”. Pine and poplar were utilised for roofs, decks and supports. This timber seems to be unpalatable to bugs.
The policy of ‘touch the earth lightly’ is taken literally here. Over one kilometre of boardwalks minimises any impact on the ecology of the forest, in fact, wildlife is often seen using the boardwalks to move easily around their habitat. No trees were removed to make way for the tree-suites; the design was constantly adapted around them creating a feeling of one-ness with nature. Each suite has its own character, sense of place and privacy.
Arrive at the Gatehouse, met by Bush pig sculpture, Frank and Furter! Guests are then transferred in a Bush vehicle and your adventure has begun. What bliss to be at one with Nature in all her glory – sounds, scents, the glory of a Knysna Loerie in flight, the fleeting glimpse of the shy Bushbuck, the heart-stopping sunsets, and the symphony of birdsong greeting the African dawn.
Classic tree suites with indigenous tree names such as Monkey Plum and Turkey Berry, these elevated tree-suites comprise entrance area, bedroom & sitting room,
stunning end-glass gable, sensuous bathroom with glass roof over double-ended bath, twin basins, separate shower room with bidet & loo, and relaxing deck. Natural fabrics in subtle creams, earth tones & black, echo the Xhosa style. All enjoy views over the Knysna Lagoon or forest.
